For once, a kiddie film that doesn’t make you cringe. This part live, part animated tale of Sankat Mochan Hanuman, the monkey god who always comes to the rescue of his ‘bhakts’, has the kind of verve mostly missing from children’s films in India.

Little Rameshwari (Ritika), struggling to come to terms with her new step mom, becomes the target of the black-hearted Kokoi (Sushmita).

In gallops Hanuman ji, in the guise of young lad Maruti (Erik), and saves her from the wicked old woman and her really bad cohorts—a loafer brother (Shabaaz) read full review...

As Kokoi’s evil plans start getting troublesome for Rameshwari, the little girls seeks help from her favourite deity Lord Hanuman (Vindoo). Hanuman sends for her help a friend, Maruti (Erik) a small boy with magical powers. Kokoi realizes the reasons for her all her nasty plans going flop is none other than Maruti. She then succeeds in creating a misunderstanding between the two kids and brings Rameshwari to a situation where she herself tells him to go out of the house. Chandrachur Singh would have to wait for a while before he could actually term a movie as a 'comeback film'. That's because 'Maruti Mera Dosst' is certainly not the film that would bring him back in the reckoning.

Two years after his last release 'Sarhad Paar', Chandrachur Singh is seen once again on the silver screen. In this 'part live, part animation' film, he reprises the role of a Mr. Richie Rich who has lost his wife and has to raise a child (Ritika Shrivastava) all by himself.

So the basic plot of 'Maruti Mera Dosst' pretty much is on the same lines as 2000 film 'Raju Chacha'. We have a huge mansion, a doting father, an innocent child, some scheming relatives, including one played by Sushmita Mukherji, and a horde of villains like those essayed by Murli Sharma and Shahbaaz Khan, and finally an ultimate dost (friend).

In 'Raju Chacha', this 'dost' was a friendly thief (Ajay Devgan) while in 'Maruti Mera Dosst', it is Lord Hanuman himself who comes in the form of a kid..read full review...

4. Times Of India by Nikhat Kazmi TNN

Taalis for a desi kiddies flick that doesn't talk down and actually believes that stories can be told the Snow White and Cinderella way in native cinema too. With hardly any hype and a title that says nothing, this film sure does come as a surprise. First, because the kids actually act as kids. The boy Hanuman is quite adorable in his unkempt slacks and his passion for swinging on a tyre, when not saving the world. The elders are either delightfully cruel, like Sushmita Mukherjee or genteel and kind like Chandrachur Singh and the film mercifully doesn't have any overt morals to preach to all us paapis. Of course, the animation (just a part of the film) could have been better. But we'll ignore that.

So what does it have? A neat little story, told with panache, almost like a fairy tale. Young Rameshwari loses her mother and finds solace in the larger-than-life Hanuman statue near her house. Of course, she loves her dad (Chandrachur Singh) and dad loves her too, but there's the wimpish step mom and her outrageously villanish motherread full review...

Plot at CoolIndianGuy

An enterprise is an undertaking.RamGopal Varma's latest gangster flick COMPANY-a law and order enterprise, undertakes one and all for an enthralling raid into the dens of dons, their molls, mates guts and guns alike. The film de facto probes into the intimate and intricate details of the functioning or should we say malfunctioning of such a company whose business is crime. Ignore people who tell you Company is Satya on a bigger canvas and don't even think in your wildest dreams that you can skip the film. It is a mast-must see for the following reasons: Impeccable technical wizardry, be it Varma's excellent direction, Chandan Arora's sharp editing, Jaideep Sahni's brash yet bold screenplay for his script packed with thrills which sure will send a few chills down the spine, Hemant Chaturvedi's unconventional cinematography, freaky background score by Sandeep Chowtha.

1. Palnet Bolleywood By Alok Kumar
Finally, Varma´s direction is excellent. Technically, the film is superb. Everything from the slick camera angles to the action shots shout panache and style. Varma´s use of fast edits and unconventional camera views are very innovative for Hindi cinema. The one complaint would have to be in the depeartment of editing, which could´ve been crisper. Some edited dramatic scenes could have led to a faster paced narrative in the second half.

The film is fine as it is, but could´ve been enhanced with a shorter running time. Another flaw in the film is, perhaps, the overuse of Mumbai slang and dialect, giving the film a limited appeal to those not familiar with Mumbai. Satya had the same problem, as did Mazhar Khan´s Gang. Perhaps more of a universal Hindi dialect would have worked in favor of the film.

Production values are worth a mention. Varma has taken his large budget and has put it to good use. Instead of doing what most big-budget film producers do (Silly song-damce sequences in Egypt and Alaska, etc.), Varma has used the money in the technical departments, giving the film a very unique look, as well as creating an important atmosphere for the story. Nowhere does Varma interrupt with mindless comedy or unnecessary romance. He keeps the regular Hindi film conventions at a minimum. After Jungle, Kaun, Satya, Pyaar Tune Kya Kiya, Rangeela, Mast, and Love Ke Liye Kuch Bhi Karega (He produced it, didn´t direct it), Varma has brought his audience yet another innovative and enjoyable film. Company should prove to be a sound investment of time and effort for all those involved. Ajay Devgan and Manisha Koirala´s erratic career graphs can, perhaps, boast of another hit, as they are bound to be appreciated in their respective roles. Vivek Oberoi is bound to have many takers once producers take notice of Company. read full review...

1. Bolleywood Hungama By Joginder Tuteja,

Years back director Ajay Chandok started working on three projects - Nehlle Pe Dehlla, Kisse Pyaar Karoon and Team - The Force. While Nehlle Pe Dehlla eventually got released a few months back, Kisse Pyaar Karoon is still waiting in the cans. Meanwhile Team - The Force will hopefully see the light of the day in a few weeks from now, even as it's promotion continues to be patchy.

Starring Sohail Khan, Amrita Arora, Aarti Chhabria and Yash Tonk in lead roles, the film bears a young look and promises a young score by Daboo Malik. In the end it turns out to be, well, just a promise!

When a track's title goes as 'Chika Chika Boom', one knows that the number is not required to be taken seriously. Add to it opening lyrics like 'Kya Item Hai Re Baap', and you know that you have reached the bottom of the barrel in the very first minute. Daboo Malik comes behind the mike in an attempt to add himself to the growing list of composers turning into singers but he is plain bad here. Period. ..read full review...

Another left-over morsel from the cans, ‘Team, The Force’ is the kind of film someone made with Team B when they couldn’t afford Team A. You see Sohail instead of Salman, and you know exactly where this is coming from.

Sohail, Vrajesh and Yash play a poverty-stricken musical-minded trio who want to play and sing and make a living. read full review...

3. Indya.com Rating .5/5

Though the movie is showing at multiplexes but the shows are cancelled as they don’t have an audience. The screening that I attended had five people. Four were seeing the movie to write a review and the other was a theatre actor watching it ‘just like that’. The manager had to be forced to play the movie for us. To save costs, even the AC was running on low power and I had to fan myself.
Anyway, getting to Team, it is directed by Ajay Chandhok whose ‘credentials’ include Kisse Pyar Karoon (forgotten), Khalbali: Fun Unlimited (not released as yet) and Nehla Pe Dehla ( people wondered why Saif had such a release after Omkara; the movie had a 90’s feel)

Sohail Khan, Vrajesh Hirjee, Yash Tonk play three friends who want to make it big as musicians. They have Khulbushan Kharbanda as their foster father. Khulbushan gets threatened by the local don, played by Sayaji Shinde. He is an extortionist. The three rise to the occasion and turn the tables on Sayaji, by kidnapping his sister Amrita and asking for ransom. And yes, they forget all about their music career. read full review...

Raj (Sohail), Yash (Yash Tonk) and Jassi (Vrajesh) are three best pals who aim to strike big in the music industry but are down on luck. They stay as paying guests at Baabe’s (Kulbhushan Kharbanda) villa. Seeing their honest zest for making it big in the field of music, Baabe offers them a timely financial help and produces their first video album. But their joys are short lived as Underworld don Raman Shetty (Sayaji Shinde) starts making extortion calls to Baabe since he wants to usurp his palatial villa. How the trio of Raj, Yash and Jassi teams up together and turns the tables on the underworld don and what hilarious consequences it all leads to forms the rest of the film.

The film is clearly aimed at the masses so it would be futile to make an in depth analysis of the film. But still having said that, the film is a clear example of how filmmakers tend to take their target audiences for granted. Fine they don’t expect you to bring your brains to such movies but why insult the intelligence so much? All possible cinematic liberties taken, all much used and abused clichĂ©s incorporated, heroines used for mere skin show, songs tumbling out of nowhere and pathetic hamming in the name of acting is that ..read full review...

Been there, seen that, moved on… That's one phrase we keep using to express various things in life. We use it for cinema too. As viewers, we've moved on to far more interesting subjects. Films that we can relate to and indentify with. Films that marry realism and make-believe beautifully. Films that not only entertain, but enlighten too.

Watching a film like TEAM THE FORCE in today's jet-age is a complete put off. Vintage cars and vintage furniture are still in demand, but vintage subjects aren't. Films like TEAM THE FORCE were the order of the day, a decade or more than a decade ago. But times have changed.

Nothing works in this team, frankly!

TEAM THE FORCE tells the story of three friends [Sohail Khan, Yash Tonk and Vrajesh Hirjee], who want to make it big in the music industry. Undoubtedly, Chalte Chalte is the kind of film the masses will clamor up to. It’s the kind of film people expect to see Shah Rukh Khan in when he’s not busy doing his rare films like Asoka or Devdas. Furthermore, it has entertainment value, songs, comedy and the emotion. The film is enjoyable overall, however, retrospectively speaking; Chalte Chalte could have been much more. I’m sure walking out of the cinema you’d hear, “after a long time we’ve had a nice film”. I hope that doesn’t send signals off to our directors (especially after Andaaz), as that is just an indication of how horrible previous releases have been.

For Chalte Chalte, fault lies in that there is emphasis placed on the marital problems but all resolutions are faux. The one powerhouse scene where Raj confronts Priya about her asking Sameer for money is still left unresolved at the end of the film and while the moral is that problems are to be worked out and not placed too much emphasis on, the couple never really discuss their problem without remaining one sided. Sure the issues are realistic but the film lacks the realistic solution. ..read full review...

Chalte Chalte adheres to the age-old Bollywood formula of two strangers meeting, falling in love and later getting married, only to get separated. Misunderstandings and lack of adjustments drives two lovers apart. In this period of separation the two take a stock of things and realize their own mistakes.

Shahrukh Khan plays Raj, the owner of a transport company. He is a fun-loving guy who likes getting in the driver's seat at the drop of a hat and is also an ardent admirer of Sunny Deol's songs.

Onefine evening, Raj has a coincidental encounter with the lady of his dreams Priya (Rani Mukherji) on his way to Mahabaleshwar hill station.

Priya is a modern and suave girl who hails from Greece. She is a fashion designer and has high hopes from her life....read full review...

Shah Rukh Khan, Jatin-Lalit, Javed Aktar and Aziz Mirza - the team has never gone wrong when it comes to music of their films. Addition to the porty is Aadesh Srivastava and what we get is the third venture from Dreamz Unlimited after Phir Bhi Dil Hai Hindustani - a satire on commercialization of society and Asoka - a historical. Both the movies had their fair share of merit but couldn't do much at the box-office. With Chalte Chalte, the producer trio of Khan, Mirza and Juhi Chawla, in association with UTV Productions, play safe and come up with a romantic feel good flick !! A lover boy role has always paid for SRK - DDLJ, KKHH, DTPH and Mohabbatein being case in point. But his role in Chalte Chalte (CC) is diametrically opposite to his role in DTPH. Whereas in DTPH he played a guy who doesn't believe in love and the concept of two people living together for an entire life after marriage, in CC it is his character who is tooooo.... mushy at heart, tooooo....romantic and toooo....moony eyed. Whereas the girl he wooes and gets married to - Rani Mukherjee - is the opposite who is much more level headed (though being fairly romantic at heart) and much more practical. And the situations that arise due to such conflicting personalities forms the crux of the storyline of CC !!

Coming to music of CC, it has 4 tracks by Aadesh Srivastava and 3 by Jatin Lalit. And this has to be agreed that both Aadesh and musician duo of Jatin Lalit deliver music that goes with the mood of the movies rather than doing something to prove their supremacy over the other. Music conveys their individual styles and still manages to gel well with the overall narrative of the movie. Examples being 'Tauba Tumhaare Yeh Ishaare' and ' Suno Na Suno Na'. Both the tracks are extrememly melodious, very well composed - - - and they are distinct compositions by Jatin Lalit (Tauba) and Aadesh (Suno Na). Common factor is Abhijeet who has always sung award winning numbers for SRK...read full review...

King Khan is back. And this time it's in a big way. The release of CHALTE CHALTE seems like a jar of fresh fruit juice to the much parched Bollywood. A weak story, but with amazing performance and good direction the film will definitely go places. So what's it all about. Actually there is no story...

Raj (Shah Rukh Khan) is a spontaneous, hard working, a middle-class man. Priya (Rani) is mature, practical and sophisticated. Opposites attract. They know that both of them are very, very different. Their attitude, thinking and lifestyle are nowhere close. But who cares, love is all that matters. Raj and Priya ignore facts and bind in matrimony.

Reality dawns, though a little late. Love exists but surfaces at the bottom. Meeting your lover is no more thrilling for both of them. Both don't find the need to impress or express love. Afterall how does it matter anymore?...read full review...

After all the hype, flaunting sexy babes and hot scenes and the presence of big stars 'Boom' kicks off to a flying start this weekend to a curious crowd. But the technically slick movie has nothing much to offer other than the hype it created...

The story revolves around three supermodels Anu Gaekwad [Madhu Sapre], Sheila Bardez [Padma Lakshmi] and Rina [Katrina Kaif] who are also thick friends. They become entangled in a jewelry heist at a prestigious fashion show which changes their lives..During the show, another model trips Anu purposely on the ramp much to her public embarrassment. Her friends Rina and Sheila comes to her rescue and they confronts the model there itself. In the subsequent brawl, to everyone's surprise, hundreds of glittering diamonds fall from the model's hair on to the runway. Media and the audience snatch the diamonds as the show turns into a chaos. The diamonds happen to be priceless but stolen, belonging to the underworld dons Abdul (Jackie Shroff ), Boom Shankar (Jaaved Jaaferi), Saleem (Gulshan Grover) and Bade Mia (Amitabh Bachchan) due to be smuggled out of the country. Now the dons are after the three models as they hold them responsible for the failed heist..read full review...

What happens when you have too many chilies? You pray for water. Your sorrow continues when you don't get it. BOOM is an example of loads of spicy stuff with little amount of substance in it. With so much hype centered personally for all bold steamy scenes and rapturous models, a cinema freak like me can't stop raving. With talks of JISM, I believe BOOM is far ahead in the competition. If using illicit scenes, cheap dialogues and star studded publicity is 'New Age Cinema', they sorry Mr. Kaizad, I am not for it.

I found myself in a queue similar to Kaizad's BOMBAY BOYS and saw them receding as days progressed. BOOM lets pray shouldn't happen since it has three models showing enough to work as a tantalizing agent. Big B was seen acting too young at an age of 60 not to forget Zeenat Aman in a QURBANI flick. The movie is been shot in Dubai, Sri Lanka and India. It has been financed by the Hindujas, so its box-office success means a lot.

The first question that crosses your mind after having watched BOOM is, for whom has Kaizad Gustad made this film?

Is it for the Indian audience -- the upper strata, the commoners, the hoi polloi? Or is it targetted at the international audience?

Frankly, the kind of film BOOM is, it has precious little to offer to the desis or videshis. It has body, but no soul. It's very high on hype, but very low on substance!

5. Apun ka choice By ApunKaChoice Bureau

‘Boom’ is all hype and little substance. In spite of the 'eye-catching' cast ensemble that includes three sensuous belles – Padma, Katrina and Madhu Sapre – Amitabh Bachchan, and the Hollywood stunner Bo Derek, the movie fails to hold the viewer interest.

The movie has a stylish look and captivating music score, but that is all about it. There is too much of exposure (and vulgarity too, thanks to the lewd character Boom Shankar played by Javed Jaffery) that makes the movie unwatchable for the family crowd.

Superstar

Amitabh Bachchan is made to look like a weirdo in the movie. All-dressed in white, Big B plays the underworld kingpin Bade Mia who delights in reading comics and chasing Hollywood fantasies in his free time. There is a sequence in the movie where the superstar is shown running after Bo Derek. The scene is recreated from Derek’s classic movie ‘10’.

Zeenat Aman, who returns to the silver screen after a long sabbatical, is wasted in the role of Bade Mia’s secretary who also does a jig for her boss at times.read full review...

Director Ashutosh Gowariker's Swades, the most awaited flick is finally out. After Lagaan, one of the biggest hits in 2001, Swades was looked upon with great expectations as it cast none other than the Bollywood 'baadshah' Shahrukh Khan.

Set in modern day India, Swades is a film that tackles the issue facing the citizens of this nation at grass root level. The India of Swades is colourful, heterogeneous and complex, and it is to this environment that Mohan Bhargava (Shahrukh Khan), a bright young scientist working as project manager in NASA, returns to, on a quest to find his childhood nanny...read fulll review...

2. ApunKaChoice by Nitika Desai

Despite the noble intention that underscores the theme of Swades, and despite the presence of a superstar who, for the first time, comes forth as an actor rather than a star, Ashutosh Gowarikar’s film turns out to be a preachy discourse rather than an entertaining and thought provoking film.

The trouble with Swades is that the same point is driven home so many times from different ways that the movie becomes an exposition on morality and the need for the ‘educated, modern and privileged’ to do their bit for those still living in complete ignorance at the grassroot level in Indian villages... read full review...

3. BBC Shropshire by Manish Gajjar

Shah Rukh Khan has given a heart warming and sincere performance in Swades. He gets under the skin of his character. So much so, that we feel Mohan's pain and his dilemma as he faces these village people.

And to evoke such emotions from the audience is a great achievement. Full credit goes to director Ashutosh Gowarikar.

The director has successfully managed to convey the message home - if you have the talent and the know-how, then return to your roots to help others improve their lives...read full review...

4. IndiaGlitz by Subhash K. Jha

Somewhere in a village in northern India, a train brings the troubled protagonist Mohan Bhargava chugging to a halt at a godforsaken station. A little boy runs along screaming, "Water for 25 paise."

Mohan, who has never touched anything but mineral water in India, buys the water...probably contaminated but still water that belongs to his soil, his country....

The life-defining moment in Ashutosh Gowariker's eagerly awaited follow-up to "Lagaan" is so sincerely sublime and so intricately poignant that it brings to mind some of the most tragic interludes on the vicissitudes of Indian poverty, as seen in Satyajit Ray's "Pather Panchali" and Bimal Roy's "Do Bigha Zameen"....read full review...

5. Express India by shubhra Gupta

Three years after Lagaan, Ashutosh Gowariker gives us Swades, a quieter, more contemplative take on patriotism and progress. Gowariker scores big on two counts: by setting his story in a village, and by getting Shah Rukh Khan to play everyman-hero with a conviction never seen in his performances before.

It is no myth that 70 per cent of India, which lives in its villages, has been obliterated from mainstream Bollywood. The director puts the ‘gaon’ back on the map, and this is a brave choice: it was easier to go rural, and stay rural in Lagaan. Here, Mohan Bhargava, NASA weatherman and an about-to-be-US citizen, has to take a tough call between the creature comforts of an American metropolis and the challenges that will face him in a backward, off-the-map UP village.

Leaving behind his high-pressure deadlines, Mohan (Shah Rukh) arrives in Charanpur in search of his beloved Kaveri amma (Kishori Ballal). It turns out to be a journey in more ways than one: a discovery of roots, and a realisation of who he is, and what he wants to be. Helping him in his quest,...read full review ...

Story

from wikipedia

The movie is narrated by two puppets, voiced by Naseeruddin Shah and his real-life wife Ratna Pathak Shah. Enthusiastic young Lachchi (Rani Mukerji) is to be married to Kishen (Shahrukh Khan), the son of the rich merchant Bhanwarlal (Anupam Kher). Kishen is a dutiful son who honors his father's wish to start a new, far-away business on a predetermined auspicious date, which happens to be the day after the wedding ceremony. On the wedding night, Kishen turns away from his wife to finish his bookkeeping, and in the early morning hours sets off on a business trip that is to last five years. Lachchi is devastated; Gajrobai (Juhi Chawla), her husband's sister-in-law, consoles her, empathizing on the grounds that Gajrobai's husband (Sunil Shetty) has also disappeared. The next day, a ghost appears, having taken Kishen's shape and voice because of his own attachment to Lachchi.

Lachchi is thus presented a riddle (hence the title "paheli") between the representation of all of her desires in the form of the ghost and her real husband. She takes this new, fond, sexual, magical, social, self-confident version of Kishen as hers. As Kishen, the ghost befriends all of the real Kishen's family and keeps Bhanwarlal happy by providing him with magical, possibly illusory, gold coins. His only blunder is in his treatment of the messenger Bhoja, who is perplexed by the idea that Kishen has sent a letter from his business trip only to receive it himself in his own house and offended when the ghost (who appears as Kishen) does not offer him a drink of water. Lachchi's bliss goes on until four years later, when she is pregnant and the real Kishen realizes that he misses his wife. He returns to find the ghost in his (Kishen's) own form. Kishen's family is unable to determine which of the doppelgangers is the real Kishen (the ghost refusing to confess. They decide to visit the king so that he can arbitrate. On the way to the king they meet an old shepherd (Amitabh Bachchan) who helps them out. He asks the real son of Bhanwarlal to pick up hot coals, asks the real husband to gather the sheep, and asks Lachchi's real paramour to enter a water-bottle. The real Kishen is found out and everyone returns home. Lachchi is devastated over the loss of the ghost. In the very end it is revealed that the ghost has escaped the bottle and taken control of Kishen's body in order to live with her. By now Lachchi has given birth to a daughter, Looni Ma, by whose identification the ghost exposes his identity to Lachchi.

The mere presence of superstar Shah Rukh Khan is usually enough to make millions of Bollywood fans across the world jump with glee. But when he's playing a friendly ghost dressed in a comedy turban and moustache, you can bet your bottom dollar you are in for a treat. However Amol Palekar's Paheli, a romantic fairytale about a spirit who takes on human form after falling in love with a young Indian bride, is more subdued than supernaturally spectacular.

Lachchi (Rani Mukerjee) is distraught when husband Kishen (Khan) leaves her the morning after their wedding under the instruction of his greedy father (Anupam Kher).read full review...

2. Planet Bolleywood, by Abid

On the whole ´Paheli´ is fantasy joyride for the whole family, with a slightly slow first half (though livened up by some excellent special effects) and a thrill a minute second half. But the lovely Hariharan song ´Khali hai tere bina dono ankhiyan´ should be edited out as it slows the pace of the movie. Shah Rukh´s scenes with Rani are wonderful, specially their romantic scenes and the one where he owns up that he is not a human. The final climax scene standout, not to mention the light scenes between Shah Rukh, Anupam and Rajpal Yadav.

Muneesh Sappal´s sets bring authentic Rajasthani ambience to the screen and Ravi K. Chandran´s cinematography is there to capture it in the rich and vibarant colours (which are not gawdy) and will rate amongst his finest works. read full review...

3. Apun ka choice by Nitika Desai

The moment Paheli begins, you know that it is a fairytale. The sandscapes of rural Rajasthan, the vibrantly colorful dresses of its denizens, the rustic ambience, all of it transports you into a mirage-like world.

And yet, when the movie gets going, you find yourself completely immersed in it as if it were real life. Such is the mastery of Amol Palekar, who has adopted a simple and thought provoking folktale onto celluloid for this unforgettable cinematic experience called Paheli. read full review...

Yaadein is a story of memories -- some sad, some painful, some full of love, some of joy, some of longing, some of desire.

But like champagne gone flat, Yaadein tantalises in the beginning and loses its fizz.

It's supposed to be a story about a father who is suddenly faced with bringing up his three motherless daughters. Handled sensitively, it could have been an emotional masterpiece. Instead, it's a mishmash between a family drama and a tacky love story...read full review

One thought a film is made for a message, with entertainment thrown in. But when the attempt is to have multiple messages, the director should ideally have a clear idea how to project it. But that rarely happens with first-time directors.

Amy Thanawala's directorial debut, Suno Na - Ek Nanhi Aawaz had the potential to be a cute film about an unwed mother's foetus talking to her. But it turns out to be more irritating than cute. So disrupting was the 'talking foetus' to the story's flow, that one of the critics present at the venue shouted, 'Kill the d*** thing!' That should already tell you how bad the film is. But we'll still talk about it, considering it's a first-time effort...read full review

It’s one of the worst films you can be subjected to, and chances are if you inhale/exhale like the numerous pregnant women who keep popping up on the screen, you’ll only end up screaming for help.
